Letter to the Editor Published

Leslie Ditrani’s letter to the Cambridge Chronicle Editor urging the U.S. Congress to protect Dreamers was published on January 4, 2018.  The letter reads:

To the editor: The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, established in the Obama Administration, has given the opportunity to study and work legally in the United States to almost 800,000 young individuals who were brought to this country as children through no control of their own. They are the same as any other children who live in the U.S., except for their immigration status. These studious, hard-working members of the community who have lived and flourished in the United States are now at risk of losing their protection against deportation because the Trump Administration has rescinded the DACA program. It is Congress’s duty to show support for these worthy young people and pass the bipartisan Dream Act. Each day, more and more families are ripped apart as their DACA members are losing their status. So far, at least 10,000 young individuals have lost their status, their jobs and their protection against deportation. I will call my representatives and urge them to pass protections for the Dreamers. Standing up for these young Dreamers is standing up for our country’s most fundamental values of liberty and justice, and it is upon Congress to uphold these values by protecting the Dreamers.
